PoS is a consensus mechanism that is more scalable and secure than the current proof-of-work (PoW) mechanism used by Ethereum. In PoS, validators are chosen to verify transactions and add new blocks to the blockchain based on their stake in ETH.

The Merge will also introduce a new type of Ethereum wallet, called a validator wallet. Validator wallets will be used to stake ETH and participate in the PoS consensus mechanism.

The Surge

The Surge is the second phase of the Ethereum 2.0 roadmap and is focused on increasing the scalability of Ethereum. It is scheduled to launch after The Merge and will introduce sharding to the Ethereum network.

The Scourge
